Life.

Life is... happening.

That should be a new shirt, like the life is good shirts... Life Is Happening. True, straight to the point.

My grandma's long time friend, Lou, passed away on Monday. He's been in my Grandma's life for quite a long time, and the Anderson family lives as well. He's been to countless Passovers at my parents house, my graduation, and 2 of the 3 kids weddings (he missed mine because he was having surgery). In the past year, his life had really gone downhill. He suffered a stroke, followed by at least one mini stroke. He wad diagnosed with rectal cancer years ago, but now all treatment for it stopped this year. He then stopped taking care of himself in a way that was not adequate enough for his doctor's and the state of Florida, and became a ward of the state. This past month or two, he was moved to a rehab facility, then to a nursing home, and was put on hospice. Through the many years that my Grandma and Lou have been friends, they've annoyed one another, had their fights, but have always been there for each other. My Grandma was, to say the least, very saddened by his passing. She had to get everything together for his funeral, which I suspect was attended by her alone, and maybe my brother. I'm sadded that Lou pretty much died alone, and didn't have a huge funeral, attendance wise. I hope I have enough people in my life at the time of my death, that my life can be celebrated with people, and that no one has to mourn me alone.

I sent her flowers today... I'm hoping they bring her a small smile. She turns 90 in April, and I hate to think of her alone, but maybe this will get her to move into a retirement community, where she can have "pampering," and not live alone.

I used to take life for granted. I used to wish to end it. But now, life is precious. Life is a gift. Life is a blessing. I hope I'm living my life to it's fullest potential.
