Disney. Who doesn't love it?
I think grown men, as hard as they can be, emotion wise, love Disney movies.
My children, are Disney movie lovers. I can say they get this honestly.
I can curl up with them on any day, and watch a Disney movie that I've seen a gazillion times, and still watch it, sing the songs, and enjoy every minute.
One of my most memorable Disney movie experiences, was seeing the Lion King with my mom and dad.
My parents never took me to a movie the second it came out. They were, and still are, cheap theater "go-ers." There was a 99 cent theater close to our neighborhood, so the minute the movies I wanted to see were posted at that theater, I would start asking to go.
Lion King finally made it to the 99 cent theater.
My parents loaded up a large purse with snacks and a bottle of water.
(Yep, that's right, even with a 99 cent movie times three, they wouldn't buy popcorn or snacks there.)
Finally, we were seated in the broken seats, our feet sticking to the floor that hadn't been scrubbed since the theater became the cheap one.
The movie began. I was enthralled, yet again, with Disney's movie magic.
Then it came... Scar led Mufasa to his demise.
Simply put, I was terrified and sad.
I immediately crawled into my dad's lap, and didn't let him go.
To this day, when I watch Lion King, I get a flood of emotions at that part.
Even more so after I had my own children, and witnessed my father's recovery after open heart surgery.
Now a days, my Disney watching "excuses" are my kiddos.
What? Another Disney movie is coming out?
When? Ok, time to take the girls!
I started seeing Brave previews a year ago.
Ever since, we've been counting down the months until it would premiere.
Unlike my parents, and probably because of my parents, I go on opening weekend, buy the largest tub of popcorn available, candy, and the largest drink.
Brave opened Friday.
The girls had new Brave shirts to wear. I was a little disappointed that I didn't have my own. :)
We invited my niece, Bella, to come to the movie, as well.
That's right... 3 girls... 5, almost 4, and newly 3.
Brandon came with. (He was just as excited.)
The movie was unlike any other Disney princess movie.
No singing. Just amazing Celtic music in the background, as Merida rode into her fate.
I sometimes feel that Disney movies give off a negative lesson.
At 16, should you really be getting married? Probably not.
Sometimes, love isn't all there is.
Brave, was very different.
The lesson: Be who you are. Love when you're ready. Live freely, with adventure. Love your family, and all of their faults.
Brave, simply put, my new favorite animated Disney movie.
... I wonder if the girls want to go again.
